MRS. MARY ROOF DIES THURSDAY
COUNTY WOMAN WILL BE BURIED SATURDAY AT ALLENDALE
Mrs. Mary I. Roof, 75, died at her home, 14 miles southeast of Lawton Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock, following a brief illness. Mrs. Roof came to this community with her family in 1901 and has resided in the same community since.
Early in life she united with the Adventist church and has always lived a conscientious Christian life.
Mrs. Roof is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Nora Scott of Lawton; Miss Iva Roof at home; Mrs. Gertie Riley of Lawton; and Mrs. Elsie Arterbury of Duncan; and four sons, Rolla and Volla of Geronimo and Jake and Guy of Lawton; and three half-brothers, Lew, Dan, and Will Pepper, all of Clinton, Mo., who are unable to attend the funeral services.
She is also survived by 26 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Allendale school house. Burial will be made in the Allendale Cemetery with Ritter's in charge. Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Allendale school house for Mrs. Mary I. Roof, 75, who died at her home, 14 miles southeast of Lawton, Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock, following a short illness of pneumonia.
Mrs. Roof and family came to this community in 1901 and is well known and loved by all who knew her for her sterling Christian character and her kindly, helpful disposition. The entire community deeply regrets her passing and sympathize with the family in their bereavement. Brief services were held at the residence, conducted by Rev. T. M. Arnold.
The services at the school house were conducted by Rev. Dr. Burnett of Duncan and were largely attended. The floral offerings were beautiful. The bearers were J. W. Phillips. W. K. Franklin, M. L. Dodd, Alex Scruggs, Lewis Franklin, and John Rhoades.
Interment was made in the Allendale Cemetery in the family burial plot beside her husband, Jerry Roof, who passed on three and a half years ago. Ritter's had charge of the funeral arrangements. (The Lawton Constitution, sunday, Dec. 22, 1929, p. 2).
