Dale Firestone was born in Dalhart, Dallam County, Texas. He was married to Clarice Shinkle. They farmed for a number of years in Dalhart, Texas. They had one child, Anna Louise Firestone, who grew up to become a teacher who taught in Lubbock and Crosbyton. She got her Masters degree at Texas Tech.

Clarice Shinkle preceded her husband in death in August 1957. He lived the last eight months of his life with his daughter and son-in-law at Lubbock, Texas. He was ill with leukemia.

Dale Firestone Dies Saturday In Lubbock; Rites Here Today

Funeral services for Orville Dale Firestone, 60, are being held this afternoon at 2:30 in the Walker Funeral Chapel.

Minister Frank Oglesby of the Lakeview Methodist church will be in charge. The church choir will sing "Rock of Ages" and "In The Garden." Miss Noreen Putnam it is accompanist

Pallbearers are Cleo Ledbetter, Hugh Rose, Howard Welch, L. E Stocker, Francis McCloskey, and Henry Rhoades.

Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery beside his wife, who died here Aug. 1, 1957.

Mr. Firestone died Saturday afternoon in the Lubbock Methodist hospital, where he had been since Wednesday. However, he had been at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Kirk, in Lubbock only two weeks after spending two weeks in the hospital. He had been in ill health several years. He was a retired farmer.

He and his wife lived in the Twist community, about five miles from Dalhart. However, after his wife died, Mr. Firestone moved into Dalhart and built a little home at 1002 Maple Ave.

Mr. Firestone was born in Freemont, Ind., Dec. 17, 1900. He came to the Dalhart area, in 1908 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W.S. Firestone. They farmed here. W.S. Firestone died a good many years ago here, but his wife lived on here until January 1960. They both are buried in Memorial Park cemetery.

Surviving Dale Firestone, in addition to his daughter in Lubbock, are two sisters, Mrs. Vivian Frampton of Dalhart and Mrs. Ethel Moore of Amarillo; three brothers, Leland and Kenneth Firestone, both of Dalhart and Clifford Firestone of Purmela, Texas. They are all here for last rites.
