Margaret Anne (Edmondson) Hemphill was the first wife of Robert Herman Hemphill. They married 18 Aug 1897 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She is buried in an unmarked grave in Oaklawn cemetery in Hattiesburg, Miss., probably next to her son, Douglas Hemphill.

Her death certificate says she was Mrs. Margurite Ann Hemphill. The certificate also calls her father Odden Edmondson, but we know him to have been Samuel Ogburn Edmondson. It also give's her mother's maiden name wrong.

Her mother was Margaret Ann Gough. Her parents were married 13 Dec. 1871 in Jasper County, Miss., W. Spilman officiating. Copied by WPA workers in County Courthouses under the supervision of Miss. Health Dept. Bureau of Vital Statistics, Jackson, Miss.

Robert and Margaret were living at 618 Edgewood in Atlanta, Georgia, when Margaret died. The Undertaker was the Barclay & Brandon Co. She was buried 1 Nov 1915, so she was transported to Hattiesburg pretty quickly.

Margaret AKA Marguerite died of stomach cancer at age 36. She was a beautiful lady and left several children who missed her a great deal.

Her children were:
Douglas Hemphill
Marjorie Chancellor Hemphill
Robert Hardee Hemphill
Dorothy Edmondson Hemphill
Eleanor Mary Hemphill
Thomas Melvin Hemphill
John Canaan Hemphill
