Sam Weston Foster Sr was born on 9 January 1871 in Richmond, Texas, to Randolph Foster and his wife, Sarah Chambers. He was a printer by trade.
Sam married Vibella Martha McGary, 13 November 1895, in Houston, Texas. They lived in Beaumont, Texas, where they operated a boarding house and Sam owned Foster's Print Shop. Sam and Martha had three children: an unnamed stillborn daughter, Joe Bruckmuller, and Sam Weston "Dub" Jr. Little Joe died of diphtheria when he was four years old.
Sam and Martha also raised their niece, Sammie McGary, after her mother died. She was the same age as their stillborn daughter. Sam was called "Unk" by Sammie and later was nicknamed "Gangad" by her daughters.
Sam was widowed when his wife died in 1943. He died, 29 April 1958, aged 87, in Beaumont, Texas, and was buried with his wife in the McGary family plot at Magnolia Cemetery.
