Axelson Dies at Age of 86

Funeral Services for Philip E. Axelson were held Fri., May 8, 1987 at the First Unietd Methodist Church. He died May 5 at Oakland at the age of 86 years.

Pastor Hiram Lilley officiated at the service. Marilee Nelson was organist.

Pallbearers were Rev. William Anderson, Glen Dowling, Melvin Dowling, Norton Dowling, Vernon Dowling and Rev. Steven Pohlman. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery. Palmquist Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Philip Emanuel Axelaon, son of Charles Axelson and Bertha Johnson Axelson, was born at Oakland, Aug. 17, 1900. The family moved to Randolph in 1911, where they farmed.

He was married to Edna Christina Nelson Dec. 24, 1924, and farmed near Wausa from 1925 to 1943. To this union two daughters were born.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church and had served as Sunday School Superintendent.

In 1943 they moved to a farm northeast of Hooper and moved into Oakland in 1952, where to took up carpentering.

Survivors are his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Charis Ann and husband Lester Nelson, Gloria Joan and husband, Harry Wagner; three granddaughters; two grandsons; six great-grandchildren; one sister; Lena Maye Grevers of Battle Creek, Mich.; one brother-in-law; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters and one brother who died in infancy and one great-grandson.
