Death Notice
Albany Ledger Oct. 14, 1887
Dropped Dead
Just before going to press we learn
of the sudden death of Hopwood
Jones, one of the leading citizens of
Howard township. The particulars
as we learn them as follows: A
fire broke out in the widow Tweedel's
residence, located in the east part of
Siloam, early in the evening, and great
excitement prevailed. Mr. Jones was
one of the first to appear at the fire to
render assistance, and was laboring
under great excitement, when he
dropped to the ground, and expired
immediately. Dr. Antrobus, of Si-
loam, and Dr. Marrs of Denver, were
called, and, our informant says , had
not yet determined whether it was
heart disease or a paralytic stroke
that caused his death. The fire con-
sumed the Widow Tweedel's resi-
dence, seriously damaging a residence
belonging to James Carver and de-
stroyed a vacant store room. Carver's
residence was insured, but Mrs. Twee-
dels had no insurance.
