He played at the halfback position for three seasons (1947 to 1949) in the National Football League and All-America Football Conference with the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Yankees. He was a member of the 1948 NFL Champion Eagles' Team. Doss played collegiate football at the University of Texas. He is best known for a remarkable over-the-shoulder reception referred to as "The Impossible Catch" during a game in 1940, which resulted in a Longhorns' upset victory over the National Champion Texas A&M Team. In 1941, he appeared along with several of his Longhorn teammates on the cover of Life Magazine. He was chosen by the Eagles in the 11th round of the 1942 NFL Draft and appeared in 24 career regular season NFL and AAFC games. (bio by: C.S.)
