Caldwell, Gladys Gilbert, age 94 of Maryville, passed away August 26, 2008, at Asbury Place. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Maryville. She graduated from Everett High School in 1933 and attended Knoxville High Night School. She was employed by ALCOA Aluminum Company for 34 years in the human resources department, was a member of the 25 Year Service Club and retired in 1979. After retiring she was an active volunteer at Blount Memorial Hospital for 24 years and was a member of the hospital's volunteer organization, the Blount Memorial Auxiliary. She received the Distinguished Service Award in 2003. In 1997, WBIR-Channel 10 named her one of "Margie's Heroes". In 2003, she received the Winston Lovingood Service Award given by the Maryville Citizens' Police Academy Alumni Association. She was a charter member of American Business Women's Association where she has served as vice president and president. The ABWA named her "Woman of the Year".
Preceded in death by husband, James M. Caldwell; parents, Mathew and Hettie Abbott Gilbert; sisters, Della Hamilton, Carrie Headrick, Ruby Estep, Ottis Gilbert; brothers, Wesley Gilbert, Marion F. Gilbert, Giles Perman Gilbert, Sanford Gilbert.
Survivors are son, James R. Caldwell; sister, Flossie Gilbert both of Maryville; several loving nieces and nephews; and a host of wonderful friends.
Funeral services will be at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home with Dr. David Gilbert, Rev. Brenda Carroll and Rev. Larry Carroll officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 28, 2008, at Grandview Cemetery for the interment service.
The family will receive friends from 5-6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 27, 2008, at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Maryville, 804 Montvale Station Road, Maryville, TN 37803 or to a charity of your choice.
