He first married Marguerite Swales on July 15, 1861 in Clarence Creek, Ontario, Canada. They had five children:

Mary Ann Yon - 1868-
John Yon - 1869-1942

After her death on Dec. 7, 1871 in Simcoe Co., Ontario, he married Sarah Joly on Dec. 26, 1872 in Lafontaine, Ontario. They had the following ten children:

Susan Zoe Yon - 1873-1961
Peter Henry Yon - 1876-1927
Elijah Joseph Yon - 1878-1932
Elizabeth - 1879-
Napoleon Paul Yon - 1880-1966
Joseph Yon - 1881-??
Mary L Yon (twin sister of Joseph) - 1881-1871
Lawrence "Lorne" John Yon - 1883-1970
Margaret Yon - 1885-1915

The original spelling of the surname was Dionne, then Jonne, which was then changed to Yonne, and finally to Yon.

The family immigrated to Michigan in 1882.
