Stephen Reggie Johnson, 66, of Quincy, passed away Friday, February 13, 2009, at The Residence at McCormick's Creek, with his loving family at his side.
He was born February 2, 1943, in Bloomington, to Kenneth "Bill" and Audrey (Lanam) Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a 1961 Spencer High School graduate and attended Franklin College.
Reggie was a member and ruling Elder of the Spencer Presbyterian Church, a member of the Spencer American Legion, the Gosport VFW Men's Auxiliary and a member of the El Shaddai Emmaus community.
He served with the Spencer Battery B of the Indiana National Guard.
Reggie was an avid fan of Owen Valley High School basketball and football and was the sports radio broadcaster for about 10 years. He also worked in Little League baseball and football in Spencer.
Reggie worked in the family businesses for many years, including Johnson's Grocery in Spencer, The Market in Patricksburg, Roadside Market in Spencer, and retiring in 1991 from Johnson's Market in Gosport.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 40 years, Loretta (Beckley ) Johnson; six children, Stan (Donna) Elmore of Spencer, Caren (Dennis) Bucy of Quincy, Tom (Dianne) Elmore of Huntingburg, Melanie Harper and John (Kim) Elmore, all of Ellettsville, and Brad Elmore of Bloomfield; twelve grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, two nephews and one niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jay Johnson.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at the Spencer Presbyterian Church. Rev. Mary Jensen will officiate. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Spencer.
