Mrs. Gertrude Yakey, resident of near Okoboji for the past thirteen years, passed away at the home of her sister, Mrs. Gerd Lambertus, near Milford, Thursday evening, December 5, 1929, at 9:15 o'clock. The immediate cause of her death was tumor of the brain. She reached the age of 51 years, 7 months and 15 days.

Funeral services were held Monday in the Congregational church of Milford and were conducted by the Rev. O. C. Geisler, pastor of the English Lutheran church, of Spencer. Interment was made in the Milford cemetery.

Gertrude Endora Lombard was born in Olathe, Kansas, on April 21, 1878. Shortly after, her parents moved to Wisconsin and it was there she grew to womanhood. On September 12, 1898, she was united in marriage to Ira Yakey, of the four children born to Mr. and Mrs. Yakey only one son, Vernon, survives, Garnet, Virgil and Wayne having died in infancy.

The family made their home in La Farge, Wisconsin for about twelve years. In 1916 they moved to Okoboji, where they lived until the death of Mr. Yakey in 1921.

Oncoming blindness, caused, it is thought, by the brain tumor, made it impossible for Mrs. Yakey to continue home-making at this time and she went to live with her two sisters near Milford.

The deceased woman endured much affliction and sorrow in the course of her life. Her last five years were especially trying as she had become totally blind. However amidst all her trials she manifested a cheerful disposition, carrying her burdens with the knowledge that some day the Lord would relieve her of them and take her to Him.

She leaves to mourn her departure one son, Vernon, of Kansas City, Missouri; one brother, Willis Lombard, of Lake Crystal, Minnesota; five sisters, Mrs. George Tischer, Mrs. Cecil Wright and Mrs. Gerd Lambertus, of near Milford: Mrs. Violet Mallot, of Kansas City, Missouri; Mrs. Esther Drummond, of Long Beach, California; and a grandmother, Mrs. J. J. Lombard, Okoboji; besides many other relatives and friends.

*Obituary is published in th Spirit Lake Beacon, Dec. 19, 1929.
