Arthur M. Brost, 94, of Otterbein, formerly a longtime resident of the Dunnington community, died at 7:55 p.m. Monday, July 17, 2006, at his residence.

Born March 28, 1912, to the late John Brost and Clara Puetz Brost in Benton County, he was a graduate of St. Mary's School in Dunnington.

His marriage was to Cecilia Puetz on Jan. 18, 1937, in Elizabethtown, Ky., and she survives.

Mr. Brost was a farmer most of his life. He also worked at Dunn Elevator as a scale operator, as a field man for Joan of Arc Canning Factory in Hoopeston, Ill., and was an owner/operator of a spreading service for agriculture products.

He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Otterbein and St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dunnington. He was on the board of directors for the Farmers and Merchant Bank, Benton Central High School Building Trades and St. Mary Cemetery. He was also a member and officer of the National Farm Organization and was a member of Farm Bureau and the Holy Name Society at St. Mary's. He served on the Benton County Zoning Board and Benton County Sheriff Merit Board. He was a lecturer, eucharistic minister and trustee for St. Mary's Catholic Church and was a 75-year member of the Catholic Order of Forresters. He also served in state offices as treasurer and trustee and was referee for high school basketball games in the 1940s and 1950s.

Mr. Brost had his private pilot's license and enjoyed golfing, tennis and bowling.

Surviving are six sons, Jim Brost (wife: Mary), Ron Brost (wife: Nancy, Larry Brost (wife: Millie), Gerry Brost (wife: Phyllis),, John Brost (wife: Cheryl)and Rick Brost, 26 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Hardebeck; a grandson, a great-granddaughter and 5 sisters, Helen Sondgerath, Irene Lampe Hill, Dorothy Strasburger, Viola Broe and Lois Shadoan.
