Funeral services for Stephen Ray Minton, 42, Houston, formerly of Troup, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Mar. 19, in the First United Methodist Church in Jacksonville, with the Revs. Royce P. Robb and Rudy Pace officiating.

Burial was in the Poynor Cemetery under the direction of the Thompson Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Mr. Minton died Sunday, Mar. 17, in a Houston hospital after a brief illness.

He was born Aug. 5, 1948 in Longview and lived in Houston the last 15 years. He was a 1966 grqaduate of the Troup High School, 1968 graduate of Lon Morris College, attended William & Mary Yniversity in Williamsburg, Va. was a 1974 graduate Cum Laude of Stephen F. Austin University with a BA degree. He taught school at Sam Houston High in Houston for 15 years. He served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam Conflict.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Doris Hawthorn Minton of Troup; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Lawrence C. (Larry) Jr. and Rebecca Minton of New Orleans, and Garry D. and Patrice Minton of Jacksonville; three aunts and uncles, Laney and Lavern Minton of Bullard, Mrs. Alma Murphy and Mrs. Olga Jones, both of Jacksonville; several nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

Pallbearers included Bobby Dennis, Chuck Cary, Randy Dennis, Alan Barnes, Rodney Moss and Rodney Paine.

Honorary pallbearers were faculty and administration of the Sam Houston High School in Houston.
