Frederick Joseph Barraud was one of seven children born to Paul Phillip Barraud (1752-1820),a watch and clock maker, and Marriet Barraud, nee Chapman (1753-1798). He was baptised March 5,1785 at St Mary church in Lambeth,Surrey.In 1806 he was made a Freeman of the City of London. On April 10,1810 he married Elizabeth White (1782-1837) at St Mary's Portsea,Hampshire and with her had eight children. He served an apprentiship as a clockmaker from 1799 to 1806.After his father Paul died in 1920 of a long and painful illness Frederick assumed management of the family firm Barraud & Lunds. He was the founder of the Clockmakers Library and Museum at Guildhall in 1808.In 1841 he was living as a widower with three of his daughters,at Kingston Upon Thames,Surrey, including Lydia Crane Barraud, whos name is given below his headstone.Probate records gave Frederick late of Thomas Ditton,surrey who died Seotember 4,1859 at Southborough,Kent and was buried in the Woodbury Park Cemetery.
