My Grandfather

Son of William Clark and Mary (Evans) Clark. Married Emmeretta Worley 31 Jul 1912 in Beloit, Mitchell Co, Kansas. Father of Gretta (Clark) Harbert and L Ray Clark.

From the files of Clyde C Clark

He was born in Asherville Twp, Mitchell Co, w/Asherville as PO, KS. The oldest son of William C and Mary (Evans) Clark. Received his education from "Old Dist. 83 on the one time Hiway 24/40, a cement surface east of Beloit, KS. He spent the greater par of his life in Mitchell Co, KS. From his school records it was learned that being the oldest boy, was needed at home to help with farm work! One term of school he was present only 5 days! It seems he helped his parents move to Dewey Co, OK ca1905. He returned to Mitchell Co, was a farm laborer in the county.

Married Etta Emma Worley 31 Jul 1912, by a Justice of the Peace in Beloit, KS. It appears that this new family lived a short time with her parents in the Logan Twp, rural Mitchell Co, Green Mound area, south of the present Church of Christ on the west side of the road. It was a part log and part stone house. I, Clyde C, was born there. Just when they moved to Beloit, KS is not known, but was before the birth of the third child, Ray (1919). They were living near the "George Dooley Ice House" in south west part of town. And, too, I can remember living on west Main St.; there was a talk of the "terrible disease" in town, this has to be the "flu" during WWI.

Walter C was born 1 Dec 1888, died 30 Nov 1945 in the Beloit Community Hospital. Gretta and I were at his bedside at the time, the hour was late afternoon, possibly 5:00/6:00 pm. He is buried in Green Mound, just north of Grandpa and Grandma Worley. Further to the north is an uncle of his, his mother's brother, George Evans. Walter and Etta divorced ca1929/1930. He married again.
