At the age of 19 he he went to Missouri where he lived until he went to Iowa in 18395, from there he came to South Dakota in 1905 and to Rapid City in 1916.
In Greenfield Iowa, on May 25, 1899 he was married to Lou Jane Anderson the faughter of William and Margaret Anderson. John was engaged in the real estate business in this city for many years and during the times when land was moving and homesteaders were coming into the country he enjoyed a flourishing business.
During the past several years he has been connected with the automotive business,and spend the greater part of last year in Casper WY where he was employed as a salesman in auto concern. He and his family returned to Rapid City last fall and he was employed by the Hood and Havolla service station at the time of his death
John Crawford had many friends in Western South Dakota and he covered a great part of this vast area during the days he was showing homesteaders their " claims". He was a big hearted fellow and scattered sunshine as he went his way. His riches were in helping others rather than to help himself. He has a large circle of friends who are grieved at his passing and extend sympathy to the bereaved family.
He was survived by ;by his wife Lou and five children: Mrs Donald Metcalf, Mrs Charles D Seffens of New York, John W Crawford Jr, Thomas A Crawford and Daisy Beth Crawford of Rapid City , and a grand daughter Frances Metcalf. He is also survived by four sisters.
