Ruth Clara Hodgson was born 13 Feb 1895 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, the fifth child of John Hodgson and Inga Jacobina Sorensen Hodgson. Her father was a photographer. To her family, she was known as Clara. Later in life, she was known as Ruth.

In 1898, the Hodgson family moved to Omaha, where her father came to work for Frank Rinehart and take photographs of famous chiefs and others at the Indian Congress that accompanied the Transmissisippi Exposition.

The Hodgson family lived in South Omaha. Ruth attended Walnut Hill Elementary school and later Central Elementary School. She worked in photo developing at Dempster's in 1914, and made copies of many historic Omaha photographs during that year including views of the construction of the Fontanelle Hotel in Downtown Omaha.

On 29 April 1915 she married Ernest C. Harvey at the residence of their pastor, Dr. Robert L. Wheeler of First United Presbyterian Church in South Omaha. They had two sons: Earl Thomas Harvey and Floyd Ernest Harvey. Ernest and Ruth Harvey lived the rest of their lives in the Omaha area, and owned and lived in succession in three different houses near the corner of 44th & Pratt Streets in Omaha.

Ruth had a great love for flowers and gardening. At one time, she lost her wedding ring in her backyard garden, then found it again many years later, a story which appeared in Ripley's Believe It or Not. During the depression, she raised chickens in the backyard.

She loved crafts and keeping her hands busy. She crocheted hats, coat hangers, and many other items. She made Christmas wreathes from pine cones. She also loved games, including card games, and played often with her grandchildren.

In 1965, Ernest and Ruth celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

After Ernest's death in 1968, Ruth lived most of the rest of her life at the Haven House nursing home in Wahoo, Nebraska. She joined the Presbyterian Church in Wahoo, made many friends at Haven House, and her family visited her often there.

Ruth died 18 Apr 1980 and she is buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Omaha.
