After Rebecca's death, Elwood married Ruth Abigail Paxton in Oct. of 1859. Their children were Talitha, William Paxton, Lenora "Nora", Jacob Ellis, Clara Mosselian & Estella Victoria.
He served one week (July 10-18, 1863) as a CPL in Co. A, 105TH IND INF; drafted into Co. A, 38TH IND INF on Sept. 26, 1864; suffered a hernia on the march toward Richmond, VA in April 1865; mustered out July 15, 1865

He now resides at Willow Branch, Hancock County, Indiana, six miles west of the growing town of Shirley, and it is to him that the author of this History is indebted for much of the information here recorded touching the Burris family. Elwood Burris served as Corporal in Company A. 105th Indiana Infantry, during the Confederate raid in Indiana under General John H. Morgan; he also served as a private in Company A, 38th Indiana Infantry; he was mustered in September 26, 1864, and was mustered out July 15, 1865."
