Mr. Levinson was born July 15, 1917, in New York City, son of the late Alfred Jacob and Sadie Levinson. He was a graduate of City College of New York and received his masters at George Washington University. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a commander, and also from the Civil Service. After retirement he began his own private consulting firm, Marine Tank Testing Corp. He was a member of Temple Israel for many years and was an active volunteer in many local organizations including the Red Cross, the Masons, Lees Friends, and also reading for the blind.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Becker Levinson of Norfolk; his three sons, Michael Levinson and his wife Pam of Virginia Beach, Mark Levinson and his fiancee Ann Kamenstein of Potomac, Md., and Jed Levinson and his wife Laurie of Lewisburg, Pa.; four daughters, Rhea Blanken and her husband Bob of Bethesda, Md., Sara Hairston and her husband Charlie of New York City, Arlene Sidman and her husband Stanley of Rockville, Md., and Ellyn Becker of Alexandria, Va.; and 16 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Alexander Becker.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Norfolk Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. by Rabbi Michael Panitz and Cantor Elihu Flax. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Temple Israel, Lees Friends, or a charity of donor's choice.
