KICKAPOO - Joseph J. Groeper, 90, Kickapoo, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at Rosewood Care Center in Peoria.

He was born March 8, 1918, in Brimfield to John and Katherine Best Groeper. He married Helen Schwerdt. She passed away Oct. 15, 1999, in Peoria. He also was preceded in death by one daughter, Jeanette (Lawrence) DuBois, four brothers and six sisters.

He is survived by four sons, Joe Jr. (Clara) Groeper of Dahinda, Thomas (Julie) Groeper of Edwards, Don (Kelli) Groeper of Eureka and Dave Groeper of Kickapoo; four daughters, Lois (Marvin) Schneider of Metamora, Brenda (Dan) Hoyle of Mapleton, Barbara (Frederick) Brubaker of Peoria and Judith (Jeff) Joosten of Bartonville; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lillian Imler of Galesburg.

Joseph was a farmer and an electrician working out of IBEW Local 34.

He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Peoria County Farm Bureau.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. Patrick Riordan officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Parish Hall in Kickapoo, with recitation of the rosary at 6 p.m. Additional visitation will be 9 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Parish Hall. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Kickapoo. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's School.
