Boedecker reports that the gravestone was "almost illegible" when he read it in the 1970s. I certainly found that to be true when I took the photo in about 2000.
Boedecker reports that Jane was the daughter of David Roach. Jane Roach was probably born in Kentucky and then went with her family to Madison, Illinois where she married John Armstrong on 24 Feb 1825. John and Jane made the first land entry in Shelby County, Flat Branch Township on 3 Apr 1832. Their cabin was located about three-quarters of a mile north of Tolly Cemetery on high ground.
The children of John and Jane Roach Armstrong:
Mary Elizabeth Armstrong m. John Housh, 1841.
Beverly Armstrong m. Emeline Virden, 1847.
Mary "Polly" Armstrong m. John Campbell, 1847.
Catherine (Caty) Armstrong, m. George McKinzie, 1847. Gravesite not yet found. Her dates: b. 15 Sep 1831; d. about 1852. She and George are found in the 1850 census for Flat Branch, Shelby County, Illinois.
Aaron P. "Poker" Armstrong, aka Aron Ephraim Armstrong. Aron Ephraim and Aaron P. seem to be the same person. It's possible that they are two different people. Aron/Aaron married Eliza Ann Merriman, 1854.
Nancy Armstrong m. David Housh,1850; m. Joseph Goodwin, 1870; m. William C. Miller, 1881.
Harriet Armstrong, m. Joseph Goodwin, 1853.
