| Birth: | unknown | | Death: | unknown | Empress of Rome. She was born in 30 AD, and married her first husband, Rufrius Crispinus the leader of the Praetorian Guard, in 44 AD. She bore him a son before he was executed by the Emperor Nero. She then married Otho, a friend of Nero, but soon became Nero's mistress. She divorced Otho in 58 AD, to pursue her ambition of becoming Empress. She encouraged Nero to divorce his wife and marry her. She is also alleged to have persuaded Nero to murder his mother, Agrippina. The historian Josephus described her as a very religious woman who urged Nero to show compassion to the Jews. In 63 AD she gave birth to a daughter, and was rewarded with the title of Augusta. In 65 AD, while expecting her second child, she argued with Nero, and he kicked her to death in fit of rage.
