Nicholas married Mary Coble in 1791 in North Carolina.

Nicholas owned land in Liberty, NC before moving to the southeastern section of Randolph County, NC. In 1814 and 1815, Nicholas purchased a total of 750 acres of land in southern Randolph County along the banks of Fork Creek where he owned a grist mill and saw mill.

In the 1820 Tax List for Randolph County, NC, Nicholas owned the following properties:
* 538 acres on Fork Creek valued at $1000.00
*100 acres on Lick Creek valued at $250.00
*400 acres on Rock Creek valued at $200.00
*101 acres on Rocky River valued at $300.00

His son, Alfred, inherited the mills. Alfred was a state legislator. He also ran a store and post office at the mill. Brower Township was named in Alfred's honor.

The original family name was spelled "Brauer". Nicholas's parents were thought to be John Brower and Hannah Echelbaur Brower. Six brothers, including Nicholas, moved to North Carolina from Pennsylvania. Abraham, Diane's ancestor, moved back to PA. Abraham found Browertown, PA, which is now Unionville.
