Funeral services for Dorothy E. Horton, 94, a resident of the United Helpers Canton Nursing Home and formerly of Main Street in Lisbon, will be held on Wednesday (January 28, 2009) beginning with calling hours at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at the Fox-McLellan Funeral Home . Entombment will follow the service at Foxwood Memorial Park.

Mrs. Horton passed away at the nursing home on Sunday (Jan 25, 2009) with her son at her side.

Surviving is her son, Hugh and his wife Peggy Horton of Colton; a half-sister, Margaret Whitcombe of Ogdensburg; a sister-in-law, Delores Strader of Ogdensburg; six grandchildren, Debbie Dority of Lisbon, Joe and Barb King of Ogdensburg, Linda and Herman Lewis of Buffalo, Lisa and Ernie Snape of NC, Lynn and Mark Martin of S. Colton, and Walther and Meredith Horton of NH; and several great and great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter; a daughter, Kathleen King; three brothers, Albert, Allen and Russell Strader; and a granddaughter, Karen Francis.

Mrs. Horton was born on June 28, 1914 in Cardinal, Ontario a daughter of the late Russell and Anna (Courtney) Strader. She moved to Ogdensburg in 1926 and graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1932. She married Walter Horton on August 26, 1933 at the Morley United Methodist Church with Rev. Arthur Northrup officiating.

She was employed at Lyle Flack Bus Lines as a secretary for twelve years and then became employed at the St. Lawrence National Bank as an administrative assistant until she retired at age 70.

She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles and word finds, fishing, gardening, knitting, crocheting, and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lisbon.

Memorial contributions can be made in her name to Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley.
