Lawrence was born June 10, 1921, in Ogdensburg, a son of Barton C. and Sarah Mae Bowman Lawrence . He attended Lisbon schools and was a 1939 graduate of Ogdensburg Free Academy.
Mr. Lawrence was a veteran of World War II, having served with the Army Air Corps in Europe and North Africa as a medic.
He married Helen Kennedy of Ogdensburg Feb. 3, 1946, at the First Congregational Church, Ogdensburg, with the Rev. Gerald E. Boyce officiating.
Mr. Lawrence went to work for the U.S. Postal Service Oct. 1, 1954. He held a variety of positions before his retirement in 1982 as postmaster of the Edwards Post Office.
Mr. Lawrence was finance officer of the Ogdensburg American Legion for 20 years. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks Lodge and St. Mary's Academy Athletic Association, all of Ogdensburg.
The funeral was held at the McLellan Funeral Home, Ogdensburg, co-celebrated by the Rev. Harry K. Snow, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church, and the Rev. Ransom Hammond, co-pastor of the First Congregational United Church of Ogdensburg. Entombment was in Foxwood Memorial Park, Ogdensburg.
