JOHN MORGAN PASSES AWAY AT HOME HERE

In the quietness of his home at 7*0 Grant street death came to John W. Morgan, pioneer contractor of this city, known throughout the McKeesport district and affectionately called "Grandpa" by hundreds of boys and girls, at 1 o'clock on Easter morning after a brief illness of grippe. Mr. Morgan was born in Canada 86 years ago, but had resided here for 50 years.

During the half-century in this city Mr. Morgan had sounded the keynote of McKeesport building progress by being the contractor on many of the largest structures, including The Famous, the R.E. Stone company building, the Coursin Street M.E. church and the Fifth avenue school. At one time he and Daniel Stratton were the only contractors in McKeesport and practically all phases of the growing building movement were placed in the hands of one or the other at that time. Mr. Morgan was also a part owner of the Patterson and Morgan lumber mill near Twelfth avenue, more than 23 years ago.

During the few months preceding his death two events of particular note occurred in the life of Mr. Morgan which brought him great happiness. Only a week ago he saw five generations of his family when he, his son, Wesley, Wesley's son, Charles and Charles' daughter and her baby all gathered at his home. At that time he commented upon the beauties of life in his characteristic lovable fashion and remarked upon the rare opportunity of living to see five generations. The other event was the staging of a party by more than 100 of his relatives in Held's hall last February 15 in honor of his 86th birthday anniversary. During the affair Mr. Morgan delivered an address in which he laid down many of his valuable secrets of the happy and successful life which he so well led.

A peculiar coincidence in his death was that it followed that of his brother, Joseph's, six years ago almost to the hour. Joseph Morgan also died on Easter morning and in that year the day also came on April 4. Throughout his life, Mr. Morgan was highly respected in this city as one of its foremost and most substantial citizens and his pleasing personality and ways of integrity won for him an exceptionally wide circle of friends.

Surviving him are the following, five sons, Harry of Gary, Ind., Elmer, Joseph, Wesley and Walter, of this city; three daughters, Mrs. Bertha Joachim* of Detroit, Mrs. Hazel Myers and Mrs. Annie Turner, with whom he had lived, both of this city; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, three sisters, Mrs. Mary Walrath of Elizabeth, Mrs. Belle Stevens of Akron and Mrs. Mable Durst of Pitcairn, and two brothers, William and James, both of Duquesne.

The funeral services will be conducted from his home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in charge of the International Bible Students. Interment will be in Versailles cemetery.
