Verne E. Moore, 31, a Rock Island fireman, 2412 Fifth-and-a-half avenue, Rock Island, died suddenly in St. Anthony's hospital yesterday afternoon, 8 Feb 1944, at 2:30 o'clock. He had been taken there at noon.
Mr. Moore, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Moore, was born Sept. 26, 1912 in Bushnell. He attended Davenport schools and was graduated from Rock Island High School in 1932. He married Miss Dorothy Irene Manion in Davenport Aug. 26, 1935. A resident of Rock Island for 12 years, he was employed by Nano's market for nine years, worked as a toll taker for the Rock Island Centennial Bridge and for the last seven months had been a member of the Rock Island Fire Department. He was of Catholic faith.
Surviving are the widow; his mother, two sons, Gerald and Eugene, and a sister, Mrs. Orville Boquist of Rock Island. His father preceded him in death in November, 1942.
The body has been taken to Wheelan Funeral Home in Rock Island. The rosary will be recited at 8 o'clock tomorrow night. Services will be held Friday morning, in the funeral home at 8:30 o'clock and in St. Mary's Catholic church at 9 o'clock. Burial will be in St. Marguerite's cemetery, Davenport.
