Bud was a member of the Methodist Temple, Reed Masonic Lodge No. 316, and the VFW Charles Denby Post 2953.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a master sergeant after 30 years of service. Bud was a WWII and Korean War veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Nellie Roettger, in 2008; sisters, Matilda Bosler, Ruth Fischer, Irene Oxley, Viola McIntyre and Clara Claridge; and a brother, Elmer Roettger.
