Rebecca "Bubbe" Frieman Foreman, 91, of the 400 block of Russell St., passed away peacefully in her sleep Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004.
Mrs. Foreman was predeceased by husband, Charles Sol Foreman and harvest years companion, Dave Weiner. Born in Portsmouth in 1912, Rebecca was the fifth child of seven born to Sara Lee and Morris Frieman. An artist for most of her life, Mrs. Foremans work is displayed at Parsons Retirement Home and the Beazley Senior Center. She was a secretary and member of Gomley Chesed Congregation where she was a member of Hadassah, Sisterhood and the synagogue board. Her volunteer worked spanned decades, benefitting such organizations as The Red Cross, Hospice, Jewish War Veterans, the DAC Center, Beth Shalom Home, Chevra Kaddisha, The Naval Shipyard Museum, Holiday House and the libraries at both Gomley Chesed and Temple Sinai.
She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Foreman Davis and son-in-law, Roger Davis; grandchildren, April Davis-Monk, Jeff Davis and Charlotte Davis and great-grandchildren, Ericka Davis, Hunter and Clayton Monk; sister, Bess Frieman Halprin who resides in Pennsylvania; many loving nieces and nephews, lifelong friend Mildred Goldstein and trusted companion Monalyn Trotter. She was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers whose families were constant sources of comfort and support during Mrs. Foremans illness.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by Sturtevant Funeral Home on Portsmouth Blvd. A graveside service will held today at 3 p.m. at Gomley Chesed Cemetery at the corner of George Washington Hwy. and Frederick Blvd. The family will sit shivah at the Davis home in Waterview.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Phyllis Rae Blachman Memorial Library at Gomley Chesed Synagogue, Sterling Point Drive. Young children are asked to read a book in memory of Mrs. Foreman.
