Laton Schooley, 79, died unexpectedly at his Brighton home early today, June 1, 1981.
He was a life-long resident of the Brighton community and a retired railroad worker.
Mr. Schooley was born east of Brighton Aug. 1, 1901, a son of Marion and Elizabeth Barnett Schooley. He married Gladys Grant in Brighton Dec. 19, 1921.
He worked for the railroad until retiring in 1963 and then worked for five years in Fairfield. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Right-a-Way.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Virginia Hendriks of Bowden, Manitoba, Canada, and Helen Fillmore of Burlington; two sons, Lee and Stan, both of Brighton; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; six brothers; Dale, Ray, Lester and John of Des Moines, Roy of Dayton, Ohio and Nelson of Ottumwa; two sisters Grace Harris of Des moines and Edith Smith of Packwood.
