Leslie A. Lewis, 86, of 108 Highland Drive, died Monday, May 12, 2008.
Mr. Lewis was born August 9, 1921 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he was the son of the late Frederick Sidney Lewis and Hilda Amanda Holmberg.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Western Reserve University (now Case-Western Reserve University) in Cleveland, Ohio. Mr. Lewis was a veteran of World War II and served as a Navigator-Bombardier on B-25 aircraft. He came to Greenville in 1942 for flight training and was later assigned to the 310th Bomb Group of the 12th Air Force. He flew 64 combat missions in North Africa and Southern Europe and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and six Air Medals.
He returned to Greenville after the war and pursued a career in the construction industry. After various assignments in the Southeastern United States he joined Triangle Construction Company as a Project Manager and retired as Vice President of Sales.
Les is survived by his wife of 64 years, Maribel Hill Lewis; three daughters, Ann (Ralph) Genoble of Franklin, Tenn., Kay Mittnik of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Caroline (Steve) Mayer of Melbourne, Fla.; and son, John (Carol) Lewis of Savannah, Ga.; a sister, Jean Huntley of Seattle, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services will be conducted Friday, May 16, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. at The Mackey Mortuary. Interment will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the mortuary.
