He was born July 13, 1929, in San Jose, CA, to Cye Sr. and Mayme Vaughan. He spent his growing up years and graduated from high school in Bakersfield, CA.
Cye attended U.C. Davis and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity. From college he went on to farm alfalfa in Wheeler Ridge, CA and ran a cattle ranch in Three Rivers, CA. He later opened the Westchester Hardware Store in Bakersfield, CA. He then moved on to Corona Del Mar and was involved with a new shopping center in Anaheim, CA. In 1963 he bought the El Rancho Motel in Lodi, CA. He moved to Elko in the early 1980s.
Aviation was Cye's life long pleasure. He was a licensed pilot for 63 years. He was a longtime member of E.A.A., having built three of his own airplanes. He was also a long-time member of N.R.A. and Ducks Unlimited.
Cye is survived by his wife, Joy Vaughan, and a brother, James R. Vaughan, of Bonanza, OR. He is survived by daughters, Karen Richards of Stockton, CA and Susan Koehnen of Neskowin, OR. He is also survived by grand children Jessica Hawkins of Woodbridge, CA, Karilyn Richards of San Diego, CA and Christopher Clare of St. George, UT.
Memorial services will be held Friday, January 9, 2009, at Burns Funeral Home in Elko at 11 a.m.
