Violet was born in central Michigan, to Charles and Gladys Addington. When she was two, the family moved to Camp Sierra near Big Creek where Charles was caretaker. Charles was a Methodist minister and home to the family included Smith Nevada, Windsor, Potter Valley, Anderson and Kerman California.
Violet attended Fresno Normal School (Fresno State) and taught first grade in Fresno, and Clovis, for several years.
At Fresno State, she met the love of her life, Emmette Hooper. They were married in 1951, and had 50 wonderful years together, raising a family in Clovis. Following Emmette's retirement after 30 years of elementary teaching, Violet and Emmette enjoyed travelling and visiting family and friends across the country.
Violet is survived by her two sons, Steve and Roy and their families; her sisters, Mildred and Fern; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was blessed with four wonderful grandchildren, Elisa, Shanda, Jared, and Sean.
Violet's family would like to express their thanks to her wonderful church family for their many visits and care in the years since Emmette's passing in 2001.
A Memorial Service will be held at Clovis Memorial United Methodist Church, on Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 3:00 p.m.
