ROCK SPRINGS Funeral services for Gladys Sheldon were conducted on Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at First Assembly of God, in Rock Springs. The Rev. Jesse Ybarra conducted the services. Pallbearers were Steve Skorcz, Brent Skorcz, Troy Sheldon, Mike Fitzgerald, Aaron Sheldon, Steven Skorcz Jr., Kyle Sheldon and Jonathan Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Sheldon, 88, of 416 R St., Rock Springs, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2006, at Memorial Hospital of Sweetwater County. A longtime resident of Rock Springs and former resident of Elizabethtown, Ill., Mrs. Sheldon died following a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 11, 1918, in Como, Mo., the dau-ghter of George and Bertha Joiner Cornell. She attended school in Elizabethtown.
She married Fowler Sheldon on Dec. 24, 1935 in Elizabethtown. He preceded her in death on Oct. 10, 1985, in Rock Springs. Mrs. Sheldon worked for School District No. 1 for many years in the food service department.
She was a member of First Assembly of God and the Young-at-Heart Senior Citizens Center. Her interests included bingo, travel, reading and camping.
Survivors include one daughter, Jean Kirby of Green River; one sister-in-law, Judy Sheldon; one sister, Bhuton Croft of Rock Springs; five grandchildren, Steve Skorcz, Brent Skorcz, Sandy Skorcz, Troy Sheldon and Paula Fitzgerald; several great-grandchildren; nine nieces and nephews; and friends, John and Pat Timlin.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Bertha; husband, Fowler; two brothers, Raleigh and Alfred Cornell; one son, Larry Sheldon; and son-in-law, Bob Kirby.
