James Grant Hilliard was born in Parker Township, Butler Count, Pennsylvania, the son of Jane Isadore/Crothers (1851-after 1920) and Robert James Hilliard (1848-1906), both from Pennsylvania.

He married Carrie B. Fox (1879-1916) about 1900 in Pennsylvania. Carrie was the daughter of Rebecca (1856-after 1910) and Franklin P. Fox (1853-after 1920), both of whom were born and died in Pennsylvania. Carried is buried beside James at the Parker Presbyterian Cemetery, Parker, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania along with their daughter Marguerite.

Fair (1874-__) and they had four children. No issue with James. Ida is buried at the Bear Creek Cemetery, Petrolia, Butler County, Pennsylvania.

He married third Lidia Jane Campbell (1884-1959) on April 17, 1940 in Butler County, Pennsylvania. Lida was previously married to Clifford Lloyd Rodgers (1884-1943) and they had five children. No issue with James.

Funeral services for James G. Hilliard, aged 71, who died suddenly at 8 o'clock Wednesday morning of a heart attack at his residence, Petrolia, were held from the Hepler Funeral Home at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Burial was in the Parker Presbyterian cemetery. Mr. Hilliard leaves his widow, Mrs. Lida Hilliard; three daughters, Ruth Hilliard of Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. Ethel Graham of Montvale, N.J., and Mrs. Esther Wallace of Buffalo, N.Y; a sister, Mrs. Florence Brady of Sapulpa, Okla; and three grandchildren.
