Birth: May 8, 1804
Granville County
North Carolina, USA
Death: Nov. 20, 1889
Sutton
Robertson County
Texas, USA

Samuel Reavis Moss came to Texas from Granville Co, NC to look at land. He bought land from Antonio Manchaca for $125.00 in gold. He also bought 640 acres in Bell County, Texas and 300 hundred acres at Easterly.

He settled in a home south of present Hearne, on Spring Creek. They farmed and operated a water mill to grind corn.
and later turned it to a cotton gin.

His slaves grew cotton and corn on the land. In order to get supplies they had to go to Houston, which took a month to travel by ox wagon.

He urged the railroad builders to extend lines into central Texas. When Houston and Texas Central Railway Company resumed construction northward, he donated the right-of-way through his land.

He built the first school near the station and hired a teacher for the children.
