Birth: Apr. 9, 1853
Robertson County
Texas, USA
Death: Dec. 28, 1931
Robertson County
Texas, USA

On Monday, Dec 28 (1931), S. R. Moss Jr., pioneer Robertson County citizen, died suddenly at his home near Five Points. Samuel, who lacked only a few months of being 79 years of age, was as well as usual during the day of his death until late afternoon when he complained of feeling tired while caring for his livestock, with his son assisting him. His death occurred shortly after he reached his room. His last words were reported to be "Who will get the wood in for Nettie, now?" Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Charles E. Bullock, pastor of First Baptist Church of Hearne at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the burying ground of the Moss family. The Hearne Mortuary was in charge of funeral arrangement. Surviving Samuel are his wife, Mrs. Nettie Moss, two dauighters, Mrs J. R.(Sallie) Squires of Mumford and Mrs. R. W.(Georgia) Bates of Hollybluff, Miss, three sons, S. O. and O. A. Moss of Five Points and J. B. Moss of Mineola, and several grandchildren and other relatives. J. H. Moss (son of Hartwell) of Hearne is a nephew. The community in which Samuel has long been a prominent figure, feels keenly his loss from their midst, as does Robertson County as a whole. Samuel spent his married life at the home where he died, the location being less than one mile from the homestead where his parents, Mr. and Mrs. S. R. Moss, lived when he was born. The entire community of Five Points and many other sections of the county were present to pay respect to the him Tuesday (Dec 29, 1931). (bio by: Connie Moss)
