|Birth: ||Dec. 3, 1843|
|Death: ||Sep. 20, 1900|
Granville Higginbotham's tombstone says he died on September 20, 1900, at the age of 56 years, 9 months, and 17 days. His birth date is not shown on his stone, but from calculating the known information, he would have been born December 3, 1843.
Granville H. Higginbotham is believed to be the son of Robert H. Higginbotham (1789-1855) who was born in Virginia and died in Kentucky; and Mary Polly (Wilborn) Higginbotham (1800-1863) who was born and died in Kentucky.
Granville served in the Civil War, Company C, 13th Kentucky Cavlery. This information is written on the Civil War pension application when Granville applied as an invalid in 1892 and when his wife applied for a pension on his war record in 1900.
At some point, Granville moved to Missouri.
In 1885 in Chariton County, Missouri, Granville married Mary Jane Sterne and they lived near Brunswick, Missouri. They had two known children:
LaFayette Edwin Higginbotham 1889-
Ruth Elinor (Higginbotham) Baxley 1890-1977
On June 13, 1892, Granville applied for a Civil War pension as an invalid.
In the 1900 census dated June 13, 1900, Granville was shown as a day laborer, age 55. Wife Mary Jane was 42, and their two children were ages 10 and 9 in the 1900 census. Granville died 3 months later on September 20, 1900.
On September 27, 1900, wife Mary Jane applied for a widow's pension on Granville's Civil War record. She died in 1942 and is also buried at Elliott Grove Cemetery.
