Arthur served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on B-26B #42-96113, 585th Bomber Squadron, 394th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Wood County, Ohio prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on March 27, 1942 at Baer Field, Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Actor and also as Single, without dependents.

He was married sometime after his enlistment.

B-26B #42-96113 took off from Station 455, England on an operational mission to Nogent Sur Seine, France. They were hit and shot down by German ground anti-aircraft fire and crashed near Lisieux, France during the war.

Arthur was "Killed In Action" in this crash.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred overseas and was later repatriated here on June 22, 1950.

Service # O-697938

Husband of Elizabeth G. Thornton who resided in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldier's were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
