Mrs. H. Dewees Taken By Death
Mrs. Hannah DeWees, 83, of Port Acres, resident of this area for 28 years, died today at 12:45 a.m. at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Victor Blitch of Groves, after a lingering illness.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Clayton and Thompson chapel, with the Rev. F. D. Williamson, pastor of Calvary Baptist church, officiating. Burial wil be in Greenlawn cemetery. Mrs. DeWees was a native of Johnson's Bayou, La., and a member of the Baptist church. Surviving are two other daughters, Mrs. Annie Berwick of High Island and Mrs. Clyde Allen of Port Acres; a son, Hark DeWees of Port Acres; two brothers, Hiram and Mark Burch of Orange; two sisters, Mrs. George Ann Jackson of Orange and Mrs. Hattie Trayhan of Johnson's Bayou; 27 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be nine grandsons, Luther, Earl, Walter, Percy, Homer, Alfred, Frank, Charlie and Claude Berwick.
Wife of James F Dewees; parents of Sophia, Charles, Hiram, Alzina, Mary Frances, Harkway and Annie.
Oct 2011, From FAG Volunteer Scott Wallace: I probed Plot 95 with an 18" prong and didn't hit any covered markers. I also do not know what the cemetery records say about markers; if there are supposed to be any or not.
