Paul D. Perkins, 89, of Sycamore Street died at 7:05 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Perkins retired from Burnside Gravel Co. where he was a crane operator. A World War II veteran of the Army, he enjoyed being around people and, in his younger years, enjoyed riding motorcycles.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street with Virgil Clotfelter officiating. Calling will be from noon until service time Monday. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Mausoleum and military rites will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Born in Shelbyville, Ky., Dec. 11, 1919, Mr. Perkins was the son of Francis J. and Daisy Bell Shuck Perkins.
Survivors include a son, Gene (Charlotte) Fox of Columbus; a sister, Aline Dillard of Florence, Ala.; his companion, Mary Evelyn Perkins of Columbus; four stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Elizabeth Allen Perkins, who died in 1992; brothers, George and Murriel Perkins; sisters, Elizabeth Badgett, Bessie Stigers and Latisha Smith; and two infant sisters.
