Thirteen Army airmen and one civilian were killed when C-47B Skytrain #43-48602 crashed in rugged terrain, 16 kilometers southeast of Carlos Pellegrini, Argentina, near Esteros del Iberá, while on a flight from Asuncion, Paraguay to Montevideo, Uruguay.

The entire crew were later laid to rest in a common grave at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery on May 10, 1948:
