John served as a Second Lieutenant & Pilot on a B-17F #42-30649, 327th Bomber Squadron, 92nd Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Miller County, Arkansas prior to the war.

He was promoted to the rank of Second Lieutenant on May 17, 1942.

John was "Killed In Action" when his B-17 was attacked by German Aircraft and crashed near Martinsbuettel, five miles west of Fallersleben, Germany during the war.

He was awarded the Purple Heart.

He was originally interred in Belgium and was later repatriated here on February 23, 1950.

Service # O-465428

The reason he is named on a group headstone is because when soldier's were killed in close proximity to each other they were unable, at that time, to identify them separately and interred their remains together in one grave.
