The Lamar County Echo, December 1979. 'Mrs. W. A. Chambless, 89, of 200 E. McKinney, Cooper, died Friday, November 25, 1979, in a local hospital. Funeral services were held Monday morning in the Steele and Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Paris with the Rev. Johnny Johnson officiating. Internment was in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cooper.

Sallie Tarpley Chambliss was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, on August 8, 1890, daughter of Ezra Thomas Tarpley and Martha Josephine Springer Tarpley. She and W. A. Chambliss were married on October 24, 1915, in Lake Creek. Mr. Chambless died in 1961.

Survivors include two sons, William A. Chambliss of Stockton, California, and Hendren T. Chambliss of Mountain View, California; one daughter, Minerva Nance of Cooper; one sister, Mrs. Jimmie George of Cooper; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Johnny Hewitt, Leon Steelman, Floyd Basham, Donald Nash, Jerry Thrasher, and E. T. Tarpley.

NOTE: From a great-granddaughter, the fathers name is Ezra Tapscott Tarpley.
