You may be gone, no longer living on this earth; but you will live on - in the memories of your family and friends. There will always be a part of you living in your family and those who knew you and loved you. You will live on because we remember you!

***** Dearest Friend Randy, As I write this tribute to you the tears are falling; it has been a long time coming but I have recently found this web-site and subsequently found you. I am giving you forget-me-nots as your flower because I will never forget you; I think of you daily and have for the past 48 years. You were my assistant gunner on the M-60 and we made a good team together. I am so sorry that you decided to go on your last mission instead of pulling K-P. If only you would have stayed behind! We were also good friends and had some good times together in a bad place. John, Rochester, and you gave all for the cause, I was the only one on the crew that survived and for all of these years have been asking "why"? I know that for my time on earth I will never have the answer, but maybe someday. I love you my brother and always will. Anyone in Randy's family that would like to contact me feel free to do so.

May 17, 1966, the position was attacked, with the main thrust falling on Bravo 2/8's portion of the perimeter. Although the out-numbered defenders withstood the assault, Bravo 2/8's casualty count had reached the point that the company had to be withdrawn.
While Alpha 1/12 and other US, ARVN, and Korean troops actively sought out the VC, Bravo 2/8 brought their dead and wounded downhill to LZ HEREFORD for evacuation. At 1600 Bravo 2/8's remaining effective were withdrawn from LZ HEREFORD.
