Oscar grew up on the family farm in Linn County, Kansas. Times became hard in that area during the Depression, so a friend and him set out for the west in look of some type of work. Heading to Yakima, Washington thinking of maybe working in the fruit, they landed in Hood River almost out of money. They worked that fall for Perry E. Wells in Pine Grove. Oscar was so impressed with the area, he went back home that winter, marrying Helen Julia Noggle in the spring. Their honeymoon consisted of a trip to the Hood River Valley, their new home.

During WWII Oscar temporarily relocated to Portland so he could get employment at the ship yards. At wars end found him purchasing a fruit ranch from Bliss L. Clark.

Even though farming full time Oscar took outside work, working at Neal Creek Lumber Company until retirement.

With all this work it left him little time for his hobby, which was fishing. He loved to fish Celilo Falls during the salmon runs.

He was involved in the Pine Grove Grange and an active member in the Pine Grove Volunteer Fire Department.

Siblings:

Ralph Vernon
Wanda Isabelle
Robert Clifton
