Charles William Cooper, 90, of Salisbury died Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at Big Bear Retreat in Slater.
He was born September 15, 1918 in Prairie Hill, the son of Charles Franklin and Euphe Jane Twyman Cooper. He married Irene Harmon on June 10, 1948 in Fayette.
Mr. Cooper was a lifelong area resident. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during the occupation of Japan. He attended the University of Missouri for a year and transferred to Central Methodist before returning to the farm where he farmed and raised livestock.
Mr. Cooper was a member of the Salisbury United Methodist Church and attended the Clifton Hill United Methodist Church; he served as superintendent of the Prairie Hill United Methodist Church for many years. He was a member of the Chariton Rangers Saddle Club and served on the Prairie Hill Cemetery Board.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene, of the home; a son Bob Cooper and wife Carla of Salisbury; two daughters Bonnie Humphrey and husband Dennis of Salisbury and Helen Bliefnick and husband Ed of Lee's Summit; eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Wernsman, Joe Humphrey, Kristin Hammett, Courtney Cooper, Justin Bliefnick, Lindsay Hunolt, Zach Cooper and Scott Humphrey; six great-grandchildren; two nephews, Jack and Jim Cross, Salisbury.
He was preceded in death by his parents; twin daughter Connie Sue at six months of age; sister Mildred Cross.
Services: Saturday, December 27, 2008.
Burial: Prairie Hill Cemetery, Prairie Hill, Missouri.
