A. Dewey Lewis, life-long resident of Van Buren, Arkansas who knew more people and probably was known by more people than any other citizen of this city, collapsed at the corner of the Post Office yard at the gate to his own home Tuesday morning and was dead when his wife, who saw him fall, reached him a second later.

An only daughter Sadie Sue, arrived by plane Tuesday night from her home in Albuquergue, New Mexico. An only son Dewey Tome Lewis, who is a Lieutenant Commander in the United States navy stationed at Monterey, California is on an assignment in the Oriental waters, and a raging typhoon is said to have stopped all air traffic from the fleet.

The body was removed to the Ocker Funeral Home, to await the funeral service at the First Methodist church. The pastor, J. M. Barnett and Vernon Schmidt, pastor of the First Presbyterian church will officiate. Burial will be in Gracelawn cemetery with a Knights Templar Honor Guard and a Masonic service at the grave.
Mr. Lewis would have been 65 years old had he lived until June 15, 1963. He was born in Van Buren, the son of A. A. and Sadie Boling Lewis. A graduate of Hendrix college, he entered the newspaper profession and for many years was a reporter for the Fort Smith papers, and correspondent for papers throughout the midwest.

For several years he was connected with the Pure Food and Drug administration, and for several years has been publisher and editor of the Masonic newspaper, The Amritian in Fort Smith.

In addition to his wife, Mrs. Tommie Lewis; and son and daughter, he is survived by two brothers, Cicero of Fort Smith, Arkansas and Earl of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and six grandchildren.

Possessed of a brilliant mind, and a photographic memory Dewey Lewis never forgot a face nor a name, and never hesitated to extend friendship to any person, wherever he happened to be. He was especially fond of Masonic endeavours, and had become active in many of the order's various organizations. He carried his membership cards with him, in a card case, and after his death, Mrs. Lewis loaned the case to the Editor of his paper, to make a list of them.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Van Buren; Van Buren lodge No. 6 F&AM; Van Buren Chapter No. 3 Royal Arch; Grand Council order of High Priesthood; Osiris Council No. 5 Royal and Select Masters; Jacques DeMolay Commandery No. 3 of Knights Templar; Knights of the York Cross of Honor; Thirty-second degree Mason Western Arkansas Consistory of which he was Knight Commander of Court of Honor; Scottish Rite Club; Honorary Legion of Hornor of Order of DeMolay; National Sojourners; Fidelity chapter, Order of Eastern Star; order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem; Supreme Council Order of the Amaranth; Scimitar Temple; Amrita Grotto; Uncle in the Albert Pike Chapter Order of DeMolay; National Council of Presbyterian Men; Crawford County Conservation League; Veterans of World War One; Veterans of Foreign Wars.
