Services held in Central City for Echtenkamp

Gilbert Henry Echtenkamp, 74, of Central City, died Saturday, July 10.

Services were Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Solt Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Kothe officiating. Burial was in Central City Cemetery.

Mr. Echtenkamp was born Dec. 4, 1913, at Arlington, the son of Frederick and Lena Hilgenkamp Echtenkamp. He received his education at Arlington and Midland College in Fremont. He also received a master's degree in school administration
from the University of Nebraska.

He was in the U. S. Navy from 1943-45, serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

He married Margaret Rice on Aug. 27, 1947, at Chapman. They lived in Iowa where he taught in various school systems. He also had been a school superintendent in Iowa before retiring and moving to Nebraska in 1976.

He was a member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steve of Hammond, Ind., and James of Pocohantas, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Sullivan of Lenox, Mass., and three granchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Pallbearers were Darrell Hilgenkamp, Edwin Meier and Raymond Rezek.

Area residents attending the funeral included: Mr. & Mrs. Edwin Hilgenkamp, Viola Kassebaum, Raymond Hilgenkamp, Darrell Hilgenkamp, Regina Cook, Mr. & Mrs. Willard Meier, Mr. & Mrs. Mel Clapper all of Arlington; Mr. & Mrs. Leslie
Hilgenkamp, Colon; Mr. & Mrs. Vic Megedoht, Hooper; Theodora Schormann and Mr. & Mrs. Raymond Rezek of Lincoln.
