PINEVILLE - Curtis Blankenship, 82, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2005, in Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness.

Born July 23, 1922, at Guyan, Wyoming County, he was the son of the late William French "Buzz" Blankenship (1895-1964) & Ethel M. Shannon-Ritz-Blankenship (1898-1998).

Mr. Blankenship was a lifelong resident of Wyoming County and had been a six-month resident of Wyoming Continuous Care, New Richmond. He graduated from Oceana High School in 1939. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, having received the Bronze Star and other ribbons. He was the owner of the Rite-Way IGA Food Market, Pineville, and had been employed by Pure Oil Co., Pineville. He was a former elementary school teacher and a graduate of Concord College. Curtis loved to walk the trails at Twin Falls State Park and was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Harvey-Blankenship (1922-1998); and three sisters, Gladys Blankenship-Browning (1921-1966), Betty Jane Blankenship (1924-1938) & Anna Mae Blankenship-Laxton (1927-1993).

Survivors include three sons, Danny Charles Blankenship (1946-2019) & wife Karen Blankenship of Randleman NC, Jerry Blankenship (Deceased) & wife Kathy Blankenship of Pineville and Eddy Blankenship of Rockview; a daughter, Peggy Blankenship-Baldwin & husband Larry Baldwin, of Rockview; five grandchildren, Christian "Chris" Jay Baldwin (1970-2015) & wife Martha Baldwin, Erik Baldwin & wife Tanya Baldwin, Jonathan Baldwin & wife Stefanie Baldwin, Kim Toler & husband Edwin Toler, and Tommy Blankenship & wife Kim Blankenship; a step granddaughter, Jennifer Farley; and six great-grandchildren, Gabe Baldiwn, Mary Beth Baldwin, Daniel Baldwin, Joshua Baldwin, Auron Baldwin and Daniel Toler.

Service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Silas Mullins Sr. officiating. Entombment will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Matheny.
